Be sure to continue with meticulous oral hygiene. Brushing around the temporary is very important to keep your gum from receding while you are wearing the temporary. You were advised by the assistant to avoid using floss around the temporary to minimize the chance of loosening or removing the temporary. Frequent use of warm salt water cannot be over emphasized (this helps cleanse and soothe the irrigated gum tissue). This will also make your final seat appointment more comfortable. Do NOT eat anything sticky while you have your temporary on. This could (and usually does) pull the temporary off. Also, Avoid chewing gum, especially bubble gum. You may notice some sensitivity to cold and to pressure with your temporary in place. This is normal!!! Cold sensitivity usually indicates irritation to the tooth, most likely from having the tooth worked on. This should improve and diminish as it heals. Pressure sensitivity is common since the temporary is not as strong and cannot support the tooth as well as the permanent crown. You may notice the texture, color, shape and size of the temporary may be somewhat different. Please remember this is only a temporary and that a customized color shade has been selected for your permanent crown. The impressions that were taken will enable the laboratory to duplicate the size and shape of the original tooth as closely as possible. IF YOUR TEMPORARY HAPPENS TO COME OFF, please coat the inside of the temporary with VASELINE and place it back on the tooth. Please do not chew with the temporary replaced this way. Should you find that our office is closed or it might be a while before you are able to get back in the office, Fixodent placed in the temporary will hold longer than Vaseline. Still when eating, use caution. Notify our office as soon as you can and we will make every effort to see you as soon as possible. A small amount of Fixodent may be used in the event you need to keep the temporary on overnight or over the weekend. Should you have any questions, or if problems arise, do not hesitate to give us a call. If you should experience pain, feel like you need any kind of adjustment in the bite, or if the temporary is loose or off, again be sure to let us know. Keep in mind we do have a 24 hour emergency answering service that can locate the doctor in the event of an emergency. |
