PERMANENT CROWN AND BRIDGE MAINTENANCE AND CARE INFORMATION Now that you have your new crown or bridge you needed, here are a few tips listed below to help you get the most out of your dental work. With normal use and care your crown or bridge should give you many years of service. You can extend this time by following these tips...
DO NOT EAT anything very STICKY, such as caramel, taffy, etc. This could result in pulling the crown or bridge loose or off, requiring a visit to the dentist to re-cement. A normal diet is fine.
AVOID using the crown or bridge to do all those things with our teeth that we shouldn't, such as biting on ink pens, opening potato chip bags, biting off thread, etc. This could result in chipping or fracturing the porcelain.
Be sure to BRUSH and FLOSS around your crown or bridge as you would your natural teeth to avoid the possibility of recurrent decay (decay around the area where the tooth and crown join) or gum recession, leaving the edge of the crown exposed which can be unsightly and could result in some sensitivity.
We strongly encourage REGULAR CHECK-UPS and CLEANINGS. It would be a shame to possibly risk losing a crowned tooth due to periodontal (Gum) disease from not seeing your dentist regularly. Remember, periodontal disease is not painful in the early stages when its most easily treated. It is the number one reason adults lose teeth.
